Another environment for "Beyond Seven Forests". Painting mountains was a first for me and by no means a last. It was heavily inspired by the Pieniny Mountains in Poland.
This is the first in a series of forests I am going to paint for a personal project. The project is called "Beyond Seven Forests" and it will be an exploration of Slavic environments and folklore. It will be more than just forests, but what better way to start.
Okay, so this piece was a challenge!
I entered The Art Order - F(r)iction Cover Challenge. The brief was to create something inspired by blue and the ocean depths. It had to be surreal in nature and fit and flow around the text on the cover. I was trying to depict a jellyfish that appeared to have a nebula inside its phosphorescent cap. Very hard to get the balance right!

In this illustration I wanted to show sunlight shining through the skin across a Chasmosaurus' frill. I imagined it being similar to a frill-necked lizard. It's fascinating to imagine all the possible patterns and colours the frill could have displayed.

I was inspired by the new findings of paleontologist Nizar Ibrahim that the Spinosaurus was an aquatic dinosaur. You can read about it in this National Geographic article: Mister Big.
